Scoring
When
you insert your Dibber into the mouth of a Triffid you will see a
rotating pattern on the display, after about 5 seconds (10 at most) you
should see a bright flash, withdraw your Dibber. If you are
not
sure whether you saw a flash (indicating a successful dib)
you may
dib again, you will only be awarded points for the first dib though!
After the flash you can go if you wish.
If you stay for a few more
seconds the number of times that the Triffid has been dibbed
that day will be
shown. IMPORTANT
- if the battery is running low the red display shuts down but the
bright white flash indicates your dib has been recorded. If
no
flash, please make a note of the time you found the Triffid. |

Positions and points
'1' means you are 1st there, good news,
that counts 40 points (80 if it is your Joker).
2nd
- 32 points, 3rd - 26, 4th - 23,
5th -
20 .... 17, 15, 13, 11, 9, 8,
7, 6, ,5, 4, 3,
2, 18th or more - just 1 point.
The
large points at the beginning of the sequence give a big reward for
being first there, encouraging people to split up. If a group
goes
one way, a lone hunter going a different way may pick up more points.
Only
points at your Joker count immediately, dibbing at other Triffids will
potentially give you points but they are not added to your score until
you take your Dibber to your Joker and dib again to bank them.
Any points not banked before the machine gun of dots sound at
the end of the event
are lost. To compete at the top level you may need to take some
risk, the multi-spice!
At the end of the day your Joker points are doubled, added to your
other points and your handicap subtracted.
In the event of a points tie, the first person to make their final dib
takes the higher place.
Above
- The winner of each event is awarded a Multi-Star trophy to
keep.
Some have one, even two, for most years, others .......
Right
- The person competing with the highest handicap holds the 'Hero
Trophy'
To
take this home for a month requires some serious DFing and a
master's degree in mathematics.
