Steve says:
Thanks
to all for coming to Ashridge, a great turn out. Hope you all enjoyed
yourselves, even though I made it slightly easier due to the hot
weather.
With
that many competitor’s low points were obtained by many people, so
maybe your strategy worked out or not.
I
must apologise in that I stretched the 200m limit in a couple of places
to about 250m to use suitable sites as in some areas it is quite open.
I also apologise if you found more brambles than I did putting them
out. I forgot to consider the directions people would approach the tx
from.
I
couldn’t resist putting B & C in the rhodo clumps. Initially I
was
going to put A in another clump as well, but changed my mind as it is
meant to be easier. In fact, it ended up almost where F was last year.
Triffid C was well hidden, causing some problems, still it’s meant to
be hard!
K,
L, M were probably the easiest group, mainly because I moved M from a
much better site when I remembered I’d told people that wearing shorts
would be fine.
|
I
put F in a position such that you had a choice to make, either do G
& H at the same time or move to K, L, M. Having G & H
over the
road seemed to cause a bit of confusion. Some people seemed to have
them both South of the road based on their start bearings. May have
been caused by the fact that the road bends. I’m sorry that some people
decided to try and walk through the pond at H, I would have thought it
was quite obvious what it was. There was some serious grot by H, so I
decided to put it somewhere less obvious in the hope that people would
waste time looking elsewhere.
As
regards the ghost, I’ve always preferred it to be in a location giving
everyone a chance to go for it. Being close to the start and quite
strong, you had a choice to make. I was there when a few people turned
up and moaned when they saw their position, saying it wasn’t worth the
effort for few points. Still that’s part of the game/strategy.

Well done to Gary, yet again best gross score with no reward, apart from a bottle of wine. I
know we take part for the enjoyment, but hopefully with the handicap
re-alignment due soon, those with high handicaps will feel able to
compete again. Steve

Re handicap adjustment mentioned above: For the first adjustment we are waiting for someone to get to 200, this is likely to be Gary after the next event. After
this, a readjustment will be triggered by anyone reaching 150, this
should prevent any future stalling as Gary has proved that is possible
to win from a handicap of 146 (see the data in the spreadsheet
above) Details of adjustment are at the bottom of the handicaps page.

Next event Sunday August 19th - Gary is the organiser, watch for details on the noticeboard.
