Justin
being awarded the Multi-Tx Trophy by our host Colin.
I
thought he had lost a bit of weight during the event but is
it more serious than I thought?
Fortunately
a fully re-embodied Justin emerged from the mist some days later, this
is how he did it:

What can
I say, It can only be down hill from here! After
all I was only out for a bit of gentle exercise on a Sunday afternoon
after
over indulging on Saturday night! With it being a nice but
rather chilly
day, I felt the need to keep the pace up to keep warm. I drew
A as my
Joker and clambering up the hill from the start I caught both feet on a
fallen
branch and fell flat on my face! Fortunately nothing damaged
as the
ground was quite soft under foot and the set only suffered a bent sense
antenna, easily sorted. I found A easily enough, but could I
find the
triffid?, not until two others had found it for me, denying me maximum
Joker
points, Grrr.
Somewhat despondent I set off
for B and it's malfunctioning
triffid, took mental note of time and then hung about for C which
turned out to
be right down the hill to the west (probably the point at which my GPS
tracker
recorded my peak velocity of 8.1mph!).

Spying Tim
coming back up the hill
I headed for where he had apparently come from and soon found the
triffid. Long slog up the hill and wondering what to go for
next, I could
hear the Ghost! This turned out to be rather further away
than I thought,
but just happened to stumble across it eventually on the way to the old
mine
workings. Then it was just a case of heading in the general
direction of
the remaining TX's and picking them off in any order as I got close.
Spent ages
trying to find the triffids on G and H. Looking at my GPS
track, I
clearly should have thought about it a bit more carefully and I wasted
a lot of
distance. I got close to M near the end, but it looked to be
in a
difficult area so headed back to A to bank my points with just 5
minutes to
spare. By the end of the event my right foot was very painful
as I limped
back to the car park. But I don't expect I will get any
sympathy!
Obviously beginners luck and the points tell a different story of a
mediocre
performance. But I was not taking it seriously.
Thanks for a fun afternoon out
and sorry I did not have time to join in the apres-DF at the pub.

Trace from Justin's GPS. |
Well done Justin, navigator for winning team at the National Final,
winner of the Triple Night and now a Multi-Win , I hope you don't get
more serious than 8.1 mph next year otherwise the rest us
will need to visit the Gym. At least next time you will have a 50 point handicap!
Thanks to you all for coming and to Colin for managing to produce a
challenging event in a very small area, the Jumble of Txs bottom right
left me totally disorientated. Took two pints in the pub
before I could walk in a straight line again. His method
acting opposite the Ghost at the presentation has earned him an Multi-Oscar
nomination. Steve also deserves our thanks for entering times
manually for Triffid B (which had a sulk when its battery sagged) while
the rest of us supped and passed 'encouraging' comments.
So that's it until next year, keep an eye on the
Multi-Noticeboard
for details of the next event, probably in March.
Merry Christmas when it comes and hope to see you all in 2018.
