Dave and  Tony  both had problems,  Dave because of a mis-understanding over his Joker at the start meaning that most of his finds were not validated (see times below for what he actually achieved)  and Tony's Rx shed the bolt retaining the sense aerial, a big shame because coming in second  at A showed that this guy has potential!

Steve received the Multi-Star Trophy and a CD of the 'The day of the Triffids' .
Coincidentally the book had been chosen by the castaway on Dessert Island discs that day  - Spooky!

Justin got the '40 at Ghost Prize' to read at bedtime .....Oooooooh.        Definitely in the 'spirit' of Multi-DF  Colin!

New on this event was the idea of 'Fun only'  participants,    see  the  bottom of the introductory paragraph on this page .
They can have DFing fun without worrying about where they come in the competition and we have fun trying to use our Multi-Skills  to work out  who the 'Anons' are   -   have you cracked it yet?

For fun

So over to our winner Steve:

I’m amazed I won this event, didn’t think I was doing that well.

I had A as my joker. From the start this was to the North and weakish. F to the East and K to the South East. I expected the whole area to be used, i.e. K, L, M on the southern boundary. As I go round, I don’t tend to take bearings on other txs and rely on signal strength to give me feel for distances. I suspect the hill was having an effect here, as K, L, M were not where I thought they would be.

I  can’t really remember much about the tx sites, the whole area looked much the same.  Did think about going around the hill to the north instead of climbing up, but in the end trudged up the hill to the first main path. At this point F came on very strong and I was tempted to go there first, but decided to keep with my Joker.
Managed to get to A fairly easily with no one else around. Took a while to find the Triffid, which was a bit further from the tx than is normal, but first in. B was next, again took a couple of minutes to find the Triffid. In second there, presumably behind Colin F. Headed to C and met Justin and Colin F. Luckily spotted the tx and tried to make it not obvious that I was looking for the Triffid. Luckily spotted it before Colin, so another first.

Hadn’t really heard the Ghost much at this point, so decided that F, G, H were next, since I thought K, L, M were much further to the south.
On one of the main paths the ghost came up fairly strong in the same rough direction as F, so decided to do G & H first. Can’t really recall any difficulties there. Got to F and thought about the ghost, but it was now 2:45 and didn’t think I would get it in 3 transmissions, and also, I still thought K, L, M were a fair distance away.

As it happened, these last 3 were much closer than I anticipated, and I picked up these 3 by about 3:05, so in hindsight, I had plenty of time to waste at the ghost. At least I had a leisurely stroll back to A. Met Roy and Rosie there, with Rosie struggling to get any sense from her set whilst standing 3 feet from the tx.

Many thanks to Colin for the event, specially not making us goes up the hill more than once. Nice pub, cheap and plenty of tea.

Heroes are those prepared to compete with a higher handicap than the system dictates thus
giving  beginners a chance of winning.

Well done Gary, who once again holds the Hero Trophy over the winter and, as so often, had the highest raw score on this event.
